you gonna fix the fence boards next?
looks like the tops are starting to rot and some major mold/fungi growing on the bottom.
mold could be harmful to pogo

That would be the landlord's job. Not even sure the fence is his. Is there a way to fix that without replacing the whole fence?

you can spray some chemicals on the mold to kill it, not bleach. it'll eat the wood fibers and make it worse in the long run.
the vertical boards can be replaced easily, just knock them off and put new ones up.
if theres just spots of rot, you can dig out the rot and fill in with bondo, then sand it down.

as far as mold goes, I want touch it. theres to many new BS laws here in the states about mold abatement you have to follow. supposed to have a special gov;t license to deal with it.
just more ways for the gov't to get some money from licensing fees/classes/etc..

same goes for any house built from 1978 or before, if caught working on a house pre 1978 you can be fined 30K for 1st offense if you dont have the proper licenses

Matty there are two types of weed killers. If you want to kill everything and that will kill both the weeds and the grass and everything else that grows use Round Up. After you do this you also need to use a pre-emergent that will prevent any new weeds for growing again. You will have to do this once a year. Then you can seed for new grass or use sod grass or if you don't want grass you can use pea gravel or stone or concrete pavers. If you devide to plant grass find out which grass suits the best. Bermuda grass needs plenty of sunshine. Fescue or azosea can grow in the shade. Off course you need to find out what grows best for Toronto which might be completely different than what grows best in Atlanta.

For the fence you need to rent a power washer and that will clean all the dirt and green stuff growing on to it.

Thanks Pavy and everyone. I'm not gonna rent anything or spend any significant amount on this, s'just a rental place. The whole house needs to be power-washed.

I'll call the landlord and tell him about my plans - I'll see what he's willing to do on his end. Would like for him to buy the bluegrass sod - if he refuses Ima simply kill the weeds, seed/fertilize and hope for the best.

Matty, with all honesty, I Am super anal when it comes to my lawn. In order to seed that area you will need to overseed big time. If you have a Costco membership then head there and pick up a big bag of Scott's premium grass seed. I think it's a 4 KG bag. You will need to seed that area when thete is no more surface frost on your ground. HEre in NS, I overseed the first week in June, but I would guess you could do that sometime in MAy die the the fact that it is warmer in ON much earlier than in NS.

If you don't have a Costco membership then the grass seed (premium) is going to cost you about $50 for a huge bag. Since that area looks quite small, it also may be best to buy sod. It's quicker and the Kentucky Bluegrass sod is relatively cheap. It usually costs $1.50/sod at Home Depot or wherever. A piece of sod is around 16"X48". You will have to water the sod every night for about 7 - 10 days, but you can also take a night or 2 off.

Oh wow, great info, thanks. I thought it was way more expensive than that. Fok a bunch of seeding.

And yeah, the lawn area is about 28' by 16'.

I'd buy sod if I were you Matty. Load up the vehicle a few times with sod (HD even give you plastic to line your trunk/vehicle) and be done with it. Another thing I'd recommend is put some starter fertilizer down on the ground before you lay the sod and on top before the first watering.

I dont think matty has a vehicle. I'll let him borrow my rental car.

Pucky, come meet us in TO next weekend! We'll watch the leaves get destroyed at the bar.

I see what you are doing here. Casper is coming to NY for some ass-kickin' and you are leaving the country.

(I hope you realize this is in no way a serious post, should not be taken seriously at ALL and is as completely goofy as the author)
