I'm sure many of you were anxiously waiting for some followup on this thread, so here you go:
I've actually grown quite fond of HeidiSQL. Almost all of my interaction with my database happens programmatically, but HeidiSQL makes browsing the data to make sure things are working properly, error-checking queries, occasionally editing fields, and creating new tables much more pleasant.
And it's free. I recommend it for anyone working with mySQL in a Windows environment.
