So who/what were the big winners and how do you feel about them Cali?

Well I guess I can look up the answer to the first part of my question. I didn't understand kato's post until now.

I had no idea Stone and Parker of South Park fame were getting so involved in writing music for Broadway. Now I'm really curious about that.

lol

actually Reno, if you ever watch the show you'd never know he was gay. it's this fabulous thing called acting.

the fact he described nph's character as "the biggest, unrealistic womanizer imaginable" leads me to believe he has indeed watched the show.

hollywood/tv and broadway have both come up empty as far as i'm concerned in the past 10-15 years. look at the run on remakes in the movie theaters and all of the revivals on broadway or the subtle changes to old stories the public thinks are new just because they've added music from 60s, 70s, 80s rock (a la mamma mia).

then may I suggest you familiarize yourself with some new works, not based off of movies or with pre-written music, such as:
Next to Normal (my personal favorite)
Grey Gardens
Avenue Q
Spring Awakening
The Full Monty
Book of Mormon
Wicked
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson
The Scotsborough Boys
In The Heights
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Light in the Piazza

Among many many many many others. In fact the majority of Broadway musicals have new music.

Cali, I am interested in going to see the Book of Mormon soon. Any advice on when a good time to go is and the best way for me to get tix for a good price?

i have no advice for this show, it is the highest in demand show on BWay and I have tried pulling every string I have and even I can't get tickets you just have to go online and buy them for the next available day, which will be sometime in August or September and pay full price. you could try the "lottery" where they take over 200 names before a show, literally draw two out of a hat, and those two winning people can see it that night.

the fully monty has been on the big screen long before it hit broadway, and putnam county spelling bee was originally another show before it became this. wicked is just a story built off another story. some have newly-conceived music with old stories, some are new stories with old music. thanks to my wife's and her family's love for musicals and shows, i do a pretty good job staying familiar with the stuff. and just because we're down here in by-gawd texas amongst all the rednecks, we still have a great theater to see them in nearby in san antonio.
