I thought this might be a cool way to introduce posters to new bands. It's one thing to post the YouTube vid in a thread but I am not 100% sure most posters even listen to half the things posted, and there isn't much discussion. Kind of a take on the movie discussion basically. And since tastes vary widely I do not expect that everyone will agree. Anyway, onward.

Country Mice: Twister (2011)

Hailing from Brooklyn this indie/alt band is something of a unique blend of Neil Young style desperation meets Dinosaur Jr. melody. However, those were very much singer driven bands and this is not. It's thoroughly a group effort and each piece shines in it's own way. A bit of a haunting presence surrounds most of the tracks. My favorites are Rabbit on a Leash and Close Behind. I would start there. If you don't care for those, the album is not for you. They are available on itunes but looking around the web the band seems to be generally unknown.

8.5 out of 10

This song is generally uncharacteristic of the album as a whole but is still a solid song, showcasing the more Midwestern folk-style the band has. Like I said earlier though check out Rabbit on a Leash and Close Behind before you make a judgment.

Good idea for a thread but discussions on bands/songs usually ends up in a pissing contest because music is so subjective.

There are 1 or 2 posters on Gamelive that are of the belief that if they don't personally like a song it must suck.

I hear you Daft, but I figured much the same way with the movie threads if someone has something they want to share they could do that and then we might be able to expand our interests. I know there's a few movies that I would have never watched had it not been for those threads.

Sucker Punch soundtrack - I liked it as much as I did the movie, which was quite a bit. The star of the movie, Emily Browning, also sings a few of the songs and sounds pretty good. Special mention to the cover of Sweet Dreams

Check it out.

Trentemoller - Since seeing Trentemoller from the front row at Ultra, it's been a welcomed overkill binge. This DJ / live band rocks my socks (you like that Juror?).

Cougar, I've heard this song before. Did you post a video by these guys here before? I like the clean sound of the guitar (I call it the Chris Isaak sound) in his particular song.

I like what I've heard from the Sucker Punch soundtrack. And the beginning of Sweet Dreams is particularly interesting how it starts out looking like a scene from a video game and seamlessly morphs into reality. I love that movie (shame on Smarmy for not seeing it).

And of course, you know how I feel about Trentemoller. Every song completely gives me a boner.

Other recent purchases:

A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms I don't know why I never owned this, but better late than never. I'm in the camp that believes that anything that Maynard touches turns to gold. Sinisterly beautifly.

Inception Soundtrack - THE HORNS OMG THE HORNS!!!! 10 Matty Rains!!!!

Magnetic Man

UK DJ's Benga, Skream and Artwork. Juror introduced Bread to Skream a year or so ago which led us to discovering Benga, one of the forefathers of the UK dubstep scene. The trio of Magnetic Man is a little more experimental, incorporating different instruments/vocalists while using a lot of Skream and Benga's original tracks as well as some of their own collaborations.

This version of 'I Need Air' is an in-studio recording featuring Emeli Sande and The Devil's Orchestra (as Bread calls them).

Bread , how could you have never owned " Mer De Noms" ???:drama:

I like this idea, always looking to be turned on to new music:10:
but cant say I've discovered any good new music lately ( that fits my tastebuds)

best new artist out IMO...but its country and I know everyone here hates country:
Jamey Johnson. not new actually, he was/is a song writer and has written a bunch of top country songs over the past few yrs but they've all been recorded by "big-name" artist.
His new double CD " The Guitar Song" is an instant classic. nothing but pure gold, with none of the bubble gum pop country bullshit.
He's being referred to as the new outlaw thats taking country music back to its roots ie: Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristopherson etc..

I was all set to consider this a total thread fail but am happy to see Bread and Robyn come to the rescue

Never posted that vid before Robyn...but I am doing my best to wear that cd out...kinda sounds similar but not identical to Deer Tick, another pseudo southern alt rock band I am infatuated with. Will check out the other recommendations tonight.

And yes Bread, shame on you for not owning Mer De Noms. Probably one of the gretest rock records I have heard.

I like some elements of house and trip hop but that Sucker Punch Sweet Dreams takes the cake so far...the other stuff was alright and had some good moments but that was a really cool version of that song. And, I have never seen that movie. Is it on DVD yet?

The country stuff wasn't bad Mikey. I wouldn't go buy it, but it's better than 90% of what I have heard of country music the last 20 years.

Daft needs to do a review, and Matty you disappointed.

And where the fuck is gregm???
