Here are the standings. The first number "6" after each country is the number of games played, then that is followed by won/loss record.

1 Canada Canada 6 6 0
2 Norway Norway 6 5 1
3 Switzerland 6 4 2
4 Great Britain 6 3 3
4 Germany Germany 6 3 3
4 Sweden Sweden 6 3 3
7 France France 6 2 4
7 United States 6 2 4
9 China China 6 1 5
9 Denmark 6 1 5

No, I don't bet it at all. I watch for love of the game and country. It is possible I might see a bet I like on games not involving Canada but it hasn't happened so far.

In fact I haven't placed a single wager on the Olympics so far.

A lot of disappointments over the weekend. Canada had 2 guys in a 5 man final of the 1000m short-track event. Guaranteed medal, you think? Nope, they finished 4th and 5th.

We had a guy in the 4 man ski cross final. Gotta be a medal there right? Nope, our guy wipes out.

Other top ranked Canadians under-performing and missing the podium. I feel bad for these people. It's not like professional athletes that you just want to tear to shreds. Our skeleton chick - who works her ass off in near anonymity for years just to have this shot - ends up in tears. Jeezuz christ.

Looks like Canada as a whole might end up with under 20 Medals....pretty disappointing. I think the pressure got to them as they were projected around 25 medals. On the flip side USA is preforming better than expected with 24 medals already which is right at their projection.

I wonder if Canada was expecting a little too much out of their athletes....thoughts?

I think the Canadian media got carried away with things and drove up expectations to an unrealistic level. There was talk of winning the games. Expectations were further driven by an "Own The Podium" campaign which spent something like 120 million dollars of taxpayer funds on performance-related issues - and also on advertising telling Canadians over and over it was realistic. So people started to feel entitled to results.

It was all based on the notion that every single ranked athlete would have a personal best with no one from anywhere else doing anything outstanding. It was an everything-goes-perfect scenario.

It was all stupid IMO. We are a country of 33 million people. For every one of us there are 10 Americans and 50 Chinese. There are Norwegians and Dutch and Koreans and Austrians and Germans who have religions around Skiing and Speed Skating.

Things have been disappointing. We had a bunch of skiers who got injured and missed the games. Unfortunately, we have had quite a few times where our athletes who were ranked, like, #3 in their sport finished 4th or 5th, and not very many times where a Canadian has come out of the woodwork with a pleasant surprise.

My short answer is yes, Canada was expecting too much from our athletes. But I am still hoping for a good week this week.

Canadian Ice Dancers Virtue and Moir win the gold medal. I did not watch the competition. I can't watch that shit.

I did happen to flip by just as the medal presentation was starting though.

As the girl was singing along to O Canada, I noticed she bears a strong resemblance to the porn star Little Caprice. It was not just adorable but also a bit arousing.

Big hockey game against Germany today. I was cheering whole-heartedly for Canada to beat the US the other day on principle, but the result of the loss is actually better IMO. We get this extra tune-up.

The winner plays the very tough Russians and if we were thinking in terms of bronze or silver medals, you wouldn't want to play Russia so early in the tourney. The loser of that game will not get a medal. You want your tough games later. But with Canada, it's basically either gold or nothing so it doesn't matter who you play when. You have to be able to beat everyone.

Of course if Canada can't beat Germany we just suck and were never going to win anything anyway.

Seriously, check this out:

I know, right?

So the Curling round-robins are complete and Canada finished at the top of both men's and women's. Kevin Martin's team is in fact 9-0. Being undefeated like that actually makes me more nervous, like they have to lose at some point and I wish they would have gotten it out of the way. Silly.

There is a big tie-breaker today to decide whom they will play. It's between Sweden and Martin's nemesis, David Murdoch of Scotland. I am not ashamed to say I am cheering for Sweden. I want nothing to do with that Murdoch guy. Although Martin beat him in the round-robin, he seems to be in his head in recent times. Sweden is a nice team too but I would rather face them.

Also glad the ladies are avoiding China in the semi-final. They are up against Switzerland who have come back hot since their 0-3 start.

And the big Canada/Russia hockey game is tonight. The tension is already killing me. It's huge.

Killing me, I tell ya. Killing me.

Canada is sitting at 6 gold medals thanks to a win yesterday in the women's ski cross by Ashleigh MacIvor.

Canada has no shot at the overall medal count but is only one behind the US and Germany for gold medals. There is a big Canada/US gold medal game in women's hockey tomorrow. Both Canada's curling teams are seeded #1 heading into the medal rounds while Germany and the USA are out.

Still lots of other stuff going on but it is definitely a rooting angle.

And then there is the men's hockey. Killing me.
