Do we like Ralph Fiennes? He turned up in an old episode of Prime Suspect I was watching - from 20 years ago before he was anyone - and I was watching his performance and I thought no, he doesn't seem right. He doesn't seem like a person. And I realized he's always like that. He's not like a person. That kind of worked for his character in Schindler's List but other than that, I am not a Ralph Fiennes fan.

Here's what I watched this week

The Fighter - I thought this was significantly over-rated. Best Picture nominee? 8.0 at imdb? GTFOOH. It's okay but it just meanders for so long. It takes an hour to introduce that Mickey has a goofy/bad family and then they zip through some fights and then they introduce it some more. OKAY! FAMILY OF IDIOTS! I GET IT! The boxing scenes were really bad. I'm sure boxing is a tough sport to simulate but that's not my problem. It looked bad. Ultimately it was a biopic of a pretty insignificant player in a dying sport. He won a WBU title? That's the big triumph we're building towards? WBU? I dunno. 5.4 out of 10.

Treme (Season 1) - I have made it to the end of season 1. Although it picked up as it went along, it never really lost its feeling of being a chore. While watching episodes, I would keep glancing at the DVD player to see how far I was into episodes, always hoping to be closer to the 57 minute mark than I really was. Not a good sign. It needed MUCH more plot. It had so much good foundational stuff but it didn't build on it. I wanted to love it but I didn't. I did watch the whole season so that is on the plus side. But I can't see myself watching season two. 5.2 out of 10.

My brother said the same thing - he talked me out of watching it. This double-seals the deal.

There were a couple of acting Oscars that came out of The Fighter. Melissa Leo and Christian Bale won as Mickey's dysfunctional mom and brother. They did good jobs. Double-edged sword though. Doing a really great job of portraying annoying people produces a lot of annoyance.

I watched the documentary that Mickey was in on youtube, after we saw the fighter at the theatre a few months ago. its in like 6 parts, and doesn't really show mickey too much. its about two crack whores in that town basically

I think the banned in in the 6 parts from youtube

here is the trailor. called life on crackstreet, lost lives in lowell

oh also...

saw Lincoln Lawyer and Hanna this weekend...

Lincoln Lawyer:
I give this a very high rating .81 stars out of a -1.0 to +1.0 archie scale.

kept you waiting to see what the next move would be by all the characters at every turn.

Hanna -.09 stars. I'd rather NOT have watched it. that is when it gets a negative number. the kind of movie that afterwards I feel I wasted time AND i'm annoyed by plot holes, unorginality, unbelievableness ect.

started sons of anarchy episode 1. no opinion yet.

Cat's Eye - Saw this classic, I can't remember if originally I had seen it in English or else but I caught a lot more meaning of the English phrases, like when the parents of little Drew Barrymore were talking about the little twitty bird having a big pecker, etc. I like the little monster putting its hand in the nose of little Drew Barrymore to suck the soul out, it reminded me of shanty. 5 out 10 Matty Rains.

The Green Hornet - lol what a stupid crap for Dumericans. 2 out of 10 Matty Rains. :tully:

District 9 - Pretty good, I wasn't expecting it that good. The story was well done and mid point I actually didn't know how it was going to end and was guessing in my mind. Making it based around South Africa was cool too, pushing the similarities of that country's history with that of the aliens, that parallel strugle. 7.7 out of 10 Matty Rains.

Black Swan - Great stuff here. How it delves into the mind of a mentally sick person. All the pressure from the environment depicted visually. Awesome stuff. 8.5 out of 10 Matty Rains.

No foreign shit here moldy. :nope:

I've been slacking on these for awhile, so here we go...

Tiptoes - He had been making a charge for some time now, and with this gem, finally Matthew McConaughey has joined Nick Cage and The Nolte in my stratosphere of beloved horrible actors. I love this guy so much. Is there any role he won't take?! True to form, as I'm sure is written in his contract, Mac has a handful of shirtless scenes. This fuckin' guy.

If you are a fan of utterly ridiculous plot lines, you need look no further. You see, the strikingly handsome McConaughey comes from a family of midgets. Standout performance by Gary Oldman(!) as the moody, dwarfish brother. Absolutely nothing makes sense, and the ending will have you leaving your dvd playing well through the end credits into black screen. It had to be a joke. That couldn't have really been the actual ending, right? It made no sense! Yup, that was the ending.

Some stellar eye candy provided by Kate Beckinsale is worth mentioning. But if you ever want some cheap laughs at the expense of people who look different from you and I, midgets are always the way to go. 9 Loaves!

Remember Me - A slow-moving film that requires a bit of discipline to get through, but completely delivers with the ending. It instantly became of of my favorite endings ever. Just a splendid reminder of how insignificant everything truly is. Also a stark reminder that Pierce Brosnan is the original Smoothy Debonair.

Burlesque - Sure it's a bit hokey in parts, but Christina Aguilera carries this movie with her amazing voice. It's really unreal what a great singer she is. I was truly shocked that Cher wasn't up for Best Actor for his performance (actually he was so bad it was good).

Apropos

Breaking Bad - Still mowing down Season 2, more of the same. Just stellar entertainment. The episode where they get kidnapped and taken out to some house in the middle of the desert with the old man and his bell is one of the greatest things ever. So awesome.

Upright Citizen's Brigade - This is an old Comedy Central sketch comedy that ranks as one of the best. Just watched Season 1 for the upteenth time. Always delivers the random, yet extremely clever laughs.

This movie was well edited and directed, but poorly written. Mila Kunis was underused and the ending was predictable and weak.
