Just started Wheel Of Time on Amazon. First episode has me intrigued (nerds!). Wife read the books and I had a college roommate who was WAY into them (nerds!).
Four episodes in and its really nerdy. They better level off and stop introducing new "types" of people and shit or ima start having to read Wikipedia on it and that's always the beginning of the end.

Still enjoying a binge as of now.

Rewatching the Star Wars prequels on Disney+ on a big 4K TV. The movies were upscaled and HDR'ed, they look absolutely amazing.

8.4 Jar-Jars out of 10 for the upscaled The Phantom Menace
8.8 Senator Amidala midriffs out of 10 for the upscaled Attack of the Clones

Revenge of the Sith

Ferrari (2023)

Consistently confused with Ford vs Ferrari (2019), this Michael Mann directed film is not your ordinary biopic.

It jumps right into Enzo Ferrari’s life (played by Adam Driver) when he’s in his late 40’s/early 50’s.

It’s a gloomy film about an 18 month period in Enzo Ferrari’s life.

There’s an incredibly powerful seen between Ferrari and his wife (played by Penelope Cruz) and every race scene is full on Michael Mann bliss.

Beyond that it’s a bit plodding

I went into Wonka expecting to take a 2hr nap. I typically hate musicals. This was more of a standard narrative with musical numbers thrown in.

I think it's a modern classic - it's full of whimsy and dark insights into capitalism and oligopoly. Timothée Chalamet's performance keeps things light but earnest. Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompa had me LOLing hard.

That was genuinely great for something that follows the Hollywood Formula. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Chalamet is going to be great when he sheds his baby face, which still hasn't happened at age 28. I see him becoming one of the biggest actors in the world in his middle years.

Revenge of the Sith is amazeballs as well. Hard to believe you're watching something from almost 20 years ago - it's a super impressive visual spectacle.

Prolly my fave of the prequels.

8.9 Sith Lords out of 10

Gonna rewatch the original movies next, apparently Disney+ did a great job with those as well.

The original Star Wars is a hard watch right after the all-out dazzle of Revenge of the Sith. I actually zoned out during Obi-Wan's battle with Darth Vader and had to rewind to catch it.

Why does Obi-Wan commit suicide by Vader?!?

Been a long time since I seen the movie but I believe it was to give Luke Skywalker time to escape

The Empire Strikes Back was a lot more palatable. Less cheese, more budget, better fighting, and the classic I Am Your Father scene. The 4K treatment was really well done, lots of super crisp backgrounds and characters. Tons better than A New Hope.

Will wait until I rewatch Return of the Jedi before rating the original trilogy in 4K.

The Iron Claw (2024)

If you were a fan of professional wrestling in the late 70’s/1980’s (or you’re a fan of good films) this one is for you.

It’s a pretty dark film. The film also gets better as it progresses and doesn’t lose any steam. I wouldn’t be shocked if Zac Effron wins an Academy Award (I’m shocked I just typed that).
