Thor, the first big blockbuster of the summer is coming out. The reviews I saw for it rated it quite well. Directed by Kenneth Branagh of all people. One review called it the best comic book adapatation since the first Spiderman (fwiw).

I see Hobo With a Shotgun is coming out. I understand it is about a hobo with a shotgun.

Here's what I saw this week:

Miller's Crossing (1990) - Great Coen brothers flic that I hadn't seen for a long time. 7.9 out of 10.

Mildred Pierce (1945) - Oscar winning performance by Joan Crawford. Rated 8/10 at imdb. I found it to be over-rated in just about every way. It is a great example of how film-making has changed for the better over the years. If someone tried that kind of bald manipulation through a story with 2-dimensional caricatures today, they would set themselves up for a Razzie. Back then they called it a classic. It's not a bad movie, just over-rated. 5.1 out of 10.

Doc Martin (Season 3) - Same deal as seasons 1 & 2. Light, friendly entertainment. 5.4 out of 10.

Also still working on season 1 of Treme and Sons of Anarchy.

Watched Natural Born Killers for the first time ever yesterday. Hysterical. I'm not even sure such a movie could be made today. Ultra-violence cranked up to 11. It only goes down well cause the underlying message is obvious and the treatment is satirical.

We like blood, we twisted foks.

I haven't seen Natural Born Killers since it came out. I don't remember how I felt about it.

I have mixed feelings on Oliver Stone. Mixed feelings that probably land overall on the side of thumbs down. He can be so self-indulgent. Kinda like a white Spike Lee in some ways.
