So I got fired on Monday from a part time gig. Shocker it happens to me often. You either love or hate me. And I was fired most likely illegally after I raised some concerns about missing tips. Anyway I get an email this am from hr asking to follow up on our meeting from Monday. The meeting was with hr and the restaurant Gm. The restaurant Gm in the beginning of the meeting said my employment was terminated. So I got up and left. No further meeting. Wonder if hr figured out the Gm is stilling tips as I thought all along. Otherwise who follows up on

If they're really stealing tips and they're a decent sized org (if they have dedicated HR) that's a major suit. Another one is not paying OT. We see class actions for this all the time and it wouldn't be hard to get a plaintiffs firm to take this case on a 30% contingency.

HR is likely just trying to go through their motions, tell you all the things they're required to (or want to). It's more likely that they want to explain some reason/cause for your termination, whether real or made up, just so it's on record. If you skip the meeting id guess they will email/mail you a bunch of shit to cover their ass.

I doubt its that they discovered some wrongdoing by management. In that case the usual strategy is to make the terminated employee jump through the hoops of recovering (demand letter, suit, etc). It's usually a small amount (for the single employee) and employees are disorganized and can be pushed around.

I got a check for a couple of thousand from Heartland Brewery in NYC because of a lawsuit regarding missing wages. Complete surprise when I got it

Started freelance writing casino pages for Better Collective sites (Action Network, Vegas Insider etc) in March. They were by far my lowest maintenance client. They loved my work and I had a positive experience working with them.

A full-time casino editor role opened up in August and they offered it to me before listing it publicly. Timing was right, freelance is drying up due to AI, and the grind can be tough.

The job is a job, but the people are great. Everyone works together and communicates well. Bosses are helpful and chill. Time and off hours are respected, very few meetings.

Nice to have a work-life balance for a change. Freelancing I was always working odd hours, feeling stressed about getting work done when I should be relaxing. Nice to have clearly defined hours (and benefits)!
