Funny People - Second viewing, and I still found it to be quite remarkable. I really enjoy everything about the movie.

Speaking of remarkable films, I plan on seeing Inception for the fourth time this week. Maybe Blittydeuce is right. Maybe I'm full-blown homo for Leo. I dunno. :greencheck::tissue:

I saw a handful of movies this week.

Chocolat (2000) - Very nice Best Picture nominated yarn. Completely watchable. In the end it is a little too lightweight to be a truly great film but it has heart. 7.4 out of 10.

Gladiator (2000) - In fact it beat Chocolat for Best Picture that year. I'm not that gaga. I give it a thumbs up - it is watchable - but I found it too populated with comic book characters for my taste. I got the feeling at times that the WWE might have a co-writing credit on it. 6.5 out of 10.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Now here we have a hidden gem. Swedish film with English subtitles (apparently there is an English Hollywood version on the way). Very interesting and original tale that centers around the investigation of a 50 year-old murder. This is the first of a trilogy. The second film (The Girl Who Played With Fire) is already out and got weaker reviews. Anyway I enjoyed this one a lot. 7.5 out of 10.

Muriel's Wedding (1994) - Most notable in my mind for introducing Toni Collete who has gone on to have a career I find respectable to say the least. This is a small quirky Australian film that walks a tightrope between comedy and serious messages. It has flaws but is mostly successful. Too freaking much ABBA music though. 6.7 out of 10.

Carnal Knowledge (1971) - Oh that's right, Art Garfunkel thought he was going to have an acting career at one time. Between him and Candice Bergen the acting is not strong but it is an okay Mike Nichols film. Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson. It has some insightful observations about relationships and sex. An awful lot of talking though. 6 out of 10.

Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson.

That sounds like a diss. :fok:

I agree with your take on Gladiator - it was well done and entertaining in a WWE kinda way.

The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo sounds interesting, will give it a spin this week.

Nothing here but the first of three parts of a BBC documentary - Our Drug Wars. It's very very good so far - the BBC dude is introduced to the underworld of drug abuse and retail drug sales and he realizes that this world is actually happening everywhere around him, and sometimes in plain sight, 24/7. The he talks to the families of young teenagers who died from overdoses (heroin and GBL) - these people have developed unique views on legal matters surrounding recreational drugs. 7.5 Matty Rains for the 1st part.

The Book of Eli

Pretty Lame. I guess I did expect that going into it. I had a few major problems with the story. I get it that he had "special powers" and could take bullets and not be effected but if that is the case....why in the hell did he hide from gun fire? Why did he ever run from trouble....why not just kill them all. Stupid. There were a few KINDA neat twists but all in all....not a very good movie at all. I was really hoping that it was one of those movies with religious undertones that would make me think but it was just a movie with religious undertones that was boring.

After.Life

This movie actually had a little potential. Had Justin Long in it (who I think is pretty watchable), Cristina Ricci, and Liam Neeson who plays the creepy undertaker. I think that the movie had a lot of potential and the story could have been really good but was just terribly executed. Ricci plays a clinically depressed girl that is in a car accident who can't figure out if she is dead or not. I get that this movie was supposed to be dark and TRIED to make you think of your life. It tried to make you think about if you value your life and what you are doing with it. The acting was a bit....crappy for lack of a better word. It is filmed rather well, so it is a big appealing to the eye but that is about it.

I'm reading a user review on IMDB and apparently the movie didn't have any significant presence in theaters and it grossed just over 6 digits... that seems odd considering the well-known cast. Intriguing.

Yeah...I saw the same thing, thought maybe it would be one of those hidden gems...but NOPE.

What? he is. He isn't kinda quirky...kinda funny but a fairly decent actor.

That stabbing scene in Zodiac was pretty disturbing. Not as disturbing as the stabbing scene in The Strangers though. Yikes!

Justin Long - He played Harken's loser son in Wake Up 'Ron Burgundy' (the little known about spin-off Anchorman film), he was funny as a gay dood in 'Zach and Miri Make A Porno', he had a teeny role in 'Funny People' as an actor in one of Adam Sandler's character's movies. I liked him in 'Drag Me To Hell', but only because the movie was dopey.

I guess my point is, I don't mind him in campy horrors or in tiny roles in wacky comedies, but there is no way I'm watching anything with him that should be taken seriously, especially as a lead man.

Justin Long. O wow.

I saw the movie in the theatre and it was.....a little disturbing. Liv tyler does not get nekkid and I am not sure I would call it a "slasher" movie.

The reason why this is so disturbing because it is a home invasion type of scenario. It is almost "too real".....I could completely see something like this happening in just about every neighborhood in America...and I am sure it does happen more than we hear about.

Not a great movie by any means but....definitely worth a watch.

Justin Long. O wow.

he was the main character in Accepted. Which is a comedy about a kid that creates his own college. I believe it was Blake Lively's first big role....he was pretty fun in that movie as well.
