I just noticed in my email that Moneybookers sent me an email saying that I hadn't accepted their new Terms and Conditions by May 1st and therefore my account was locked from sending or receiving money transfers until I clicked on the link below and confirmed. And if I didn't my account would be permanently closed as of May 15th. Being 4am here and not thinking, I clicked, only to have the page come up blocked and no information was given on my end. I then re checked the email and noticed that though it is a dead ringer for a moneybookers email it was not addressed to my first and last name but to my email address instead. This set off another red flag so I pulled up another email from March (addressed to my first and last name so therefore legit) that had been sent regarding their T+C changing and at no point in that email did it say I had to do anything, and in fact by not doing anything, would mean I was giving my consent to the new Terms.

I guess my question is, did anyone else get this email, did anyone else have to actually confirm they accepted the new Terms or is this clearly a phishing attempt. I obviously don't want my account closed, and this clearly seems at this point like it's phishing, but the account is to valuable to lose if I am wrong. I was going to write Moneybookers but they have a history of closing accounts while they 'investigate' etc. and I don't want that hassle if I don't need it. Just for safety and security I sent all the money I had in there into my Greek account (which if this email was correct I shouldn't have been able to do) and then changed both my Moneybookers password and my Greek password.

Thanks kindly

Definitely a hack, leads back to a Romanian server, word press site. Erase your internet history completely just in case they did anything with cookies.

Get in the habit of checking the link structure when you on mouse over a link anywhere, emails, sites, etc, you can see it appear at the bottom of the browser when you put the cursor over the link. If anything looks off always suspect it.

clearly a phishing attempt. For the future cobra most respected or large companies don't make actions occur for you locally. They normally send messages telling you to go somewhere on their servers to make the actions, if that makes sense.

If you got the passwords changes on both accounts and they don't have axx to your email I'd say your okay. These attempts are normally for people who aren't so good with computers and they play the numbers game.

Thanks guys, I never fall for this stuff, but this email was word for word a moneybookers email up to and including the disclaimer at the bottom that tells you what to watch out for. Plus it was late and I was tired. No excuse though, I should know better. I have my settings set so that as soon as I log out of firefox everything automatically clears, cookies included. So hopefully it was just a near miss and a wake up call to be more aware, especially considering the finances at stake.

Thanks again RJ and FF and others for the help/advice.
