if my calculations are correct then there should be a check for approximately $221.78 coming to me soon. my plan is to invest this in mlb futures. thinking three $75 wagers and currently feeling some combo of the following:

braves 12/1 win world series
texas 15/1 win world series
st. louis 15/1 win world series
giants 9/1 win national league
texas 9/1 win american league

thoughts and suggestions welcome.

I think Texas is the best team in the AL. I really like the bullpens arms they added at the deadline, hoepfully that will help take pressure off of Feliz.

The Red Sox need Buchholz to be a factor in October, and that doesn't seem to good at this point.

Baseball Prospectus have the Cardinals as having a 26.3% chance of making the postseason going into today's games and a no vig line on them even making the playoffs is +280 so odds of 15/1 to win it all isn't very tempting.

you got anything that looks like value to at this point polo?

If you compare 2011 WAR for hitting and starting pitching, the Rangers are a more productive team than the Yankees (leaving out relievers since the Rangers had the league worst bullpen but they made a huge upgrade before the trade deadline). The Yankees are 5/2 and 9/2 to win the pennant and WS respectively - the Rangers are 9/1 and 15/1.

Although note that the Rangers now only have a one game lead over the Angels in the AL West although BP still sees them winning the division by around 4 games.

I will preface this and say I am an Angels fan so I am biased. If Santana keeps pitching like he has the last 2 starts, along with Weaver & Haren, the Angels could be tough down the stretch.

I like this thread.

Morty, what the fuck is Weaver's deal though? Is it a family thing? Jeff is the same freakin way. Those two get DERAILED by opposing hitters WAY too easily.

They need to chill with the emotion. That shit will bury them in a big game. Look what happened to Jeff in 2003 in the World Series vs FLA. Emotions.

Weaver has been better the last few years but yeah they have both always been hotheads. I always thought Jeff hurt his career by not being able to keep his emotions in check. For some people, it is a hard thing to do. Some of that emotion is good to have but they just have to be able to control it and let things go.

And if the Angels had spent the $23 million that they are paying for Vernon Wells in 2011 on somebody who would produce to their salary, they would probably be tying the Rangers at this point. For that reason alone, they deserve not not reach the postseason until that contract expires.

Yes that signing was painful. I never have seen a front office panic like that before. There plan was to get Carl Crawford and they thought they had him. They seemed to have no backup plan when Crawford decided to go to Boston.

What's also bad about that trade is they basically gave Napoli away in that deal and he is now putting up better numbers for Texas then Wells is the for Angels. :fok:
