Is this guy that great of a coach? :dunno:

Absolutely not. Worth twice as much as the next highest paid guy? Ridiculous.

I appreciate what he has done with Team Canada in a couple of Olympics but let's get real: stacked teams to say the least.

The Detroit system has provided him with a stream of solid players - he has made the playoffs a bunch of times.

By comparison, I believe he has advanced past the first round once in the last 5 years? In that span, Joel Quenneville has made the conference final 4 or 5 times with 2 Stanley Cups.

Daryl Sutter - a couple of Cups.

Not that Sutter and Quenneville don't hugely appreciate what has just happened as far as the bar being raised but are they dwarfed by Babcock as coaches? I do not see the case.

Babcock is good. But he's a coach. He does well with good players. That's how it works.

I'm just waiting for him to get a load of the retardfest which is Leafs Nation. Over/Under on when the hysteria starts for his firing: 13 and a half seconds.

I really think Detroit looks smart here. Again. They know the value of a coach. Apparently their final offer was under 4 million a year - well under the 6.25 where the Cockinator ended up. That is sensible. Not hysterical.

Apparently the Red Wings have a coach that has been groomed that will probably now get a chance. That is the Red Wings way.

They even got compensation. A 3rd round pick. Detroit has shown some ability to make something of those.

They have a blueprint and they stick with it.

I agree 100% with everything said here.

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed coach Ken Hitchcock.

Hitchcock's record since joining the Blues in the 2011-2012 season is a better-than-Babcock 175-79-27.

Financial terms were not disclosed but it's prolly less than 6.25 million for the year.
