Team will be up and running by 2017. This side will have a lot more financial backing than the Miami Fusion did.

Also, if you want to see some seriously dedicated MLS fan bases, watch Portland Timbers v Seattle Sounders 10 PM on Sunday night.
 
Given that I would be unlikely to watch any MLS soccer if I lived to be a million . . .

If it hadn't been the name of a TV show and movie, I would say Miami Vice is a nice name. Edgy, cool.

The pop culture angle adds a tinge of cheesiness in my view but they could do worse. Like it sure ain't as bad as the Toronto Raptors.
 
As far as I know, a rafter is just an architectural/construction term. It's just a support piece in the roof, I think?

Nothing basketball specific about it other than you could describe a sold-out arena as being jammed to the rafters ---> an idiomatic way of saying it's as full as it can be.



Not sure I feel the Toronto Rafters would be a great name, but I would prolly vote for it over Raptors.

Atlanta is going to have an MLS team in 2017. Arthur Blank will own it and they will be playing at the new Falcons stadium. We are doing some work on it in the office.

Rafters is just another name for a member supporting the roof like a purlin.
