Apparently thousands of homeowners were uninsurable and will lose everything, which is ironic cause this event will give them another opportunity to raise rates. My homeowner policy has tripled in the last ten years,3600 a year without earthquake coverage.

If I had to do it all over again I would have gone into selling commercial/homeowner’s insurance policies. My friend started his own brokerage about 10 years ago, sold 3 years ago for 3 million and they kept him on for a 5 year contract @750K plus commission.

Newsom cut the funding for preventing forest fires and failed to build sufficient water resources for fighting fires. Mayor Karen Bass cut $17.5 million in funding for the Los Angeles Fire Department and then went to Ghana even though she knew of the risk of catastrophic fires.

It’s true that California, in general, and Los Angeles, in particular, are fiery places. It’s true that the Santa Ana winds made the fires worse. This can't be attributed to "politicians."

But Newsom and Bass have known about those hazards for all of their careers and failed to deal with them. Their rank incompetence and lack of leadership are shocking.

It’s hard to overstate how badly they screwed up water management. LA firefighters haven’t had the water they needed. Newsom hasn’t built the new water reservoirs.

So while I don't think all the blame goes to Newsom, surely MOST of the blame should. He had chances in the past to improve those water resources and knew very well about the risks.

I agree that Bass and Newsom both deserve blame for being woefully unprepared for this. The damage and devastation will be worse than it otherwise may have been because of these failures.

Having said that, I think their role in this is being blown dramatically out of proportion. Which of course is no surprise given the political climate we are in right now.

Tuesday's windstorm was fucking helacious. City-wide. Trees and streetlights were getting blown over. Consistent 80-100 MPH winds for hours on end. Devastating conditions for a natural disaster.

A couple of lousy politicians had nothing to do with that. No firefighter budget or resources were going to prevent this from being a catastrophe.

I would never blame the politicians for the fires

I’d blame them for not taking the proper steps to minimize the damages beforehand..

This disaster has really exposed California for what it is politically. A state that woefully misuses their funds and resources for the sake of satiating a woke contingent.
