Wow MrX how did you ever go about finding or connecting those? I spent a lot of time in Bangaluru.
The Beatles ashram is pretty well known in Rishikesh. There are babas who will take you in there and show you around for a buck or two. We found it alone, since we didn't really want to hang around with a baba all day. It wasn't too hard to find, though we did run into people who couldn't find it.
If you ever go back to India, and you have an android phone, I highly recommend the free GPS app MapFactor Navigator. It uses Openstreet maps that you download to your SD card, so no phone connection is needed, and the India maps were spot on. In the smaller villages, it even had all the crazy foot trails that go from mountain village to mountain village. I had some amazing, epic hikes using it, and ended up in some places I never would have seen.
The Beatles ashram wasn't labeled, but once we were in there, I noticed a bunch of unlabeled landmarks, and they all turned out to be really cool buildings within the ashram.
How was Bangaluru? What were you up to there? I didn't spend any time in big cities, other than passing through Delhi and an airport day in Mumbai. I was also never south of Goa. It was way too hot down south when I was there. The mountains were perfect.
I've got a ten year visa. Next time I'm buying a Royal Enfield and motorcycling around the country. I'm really looking forward to that. I loved India, but traveling around it was brutal.
