Very rarely, it was almost always the straightforward "are you guys twins?", prolly 'cause we never looked quite that identical.

We're good at deadpan so half the time we would claim not to know each other. It was especially effective on public transit. People were doubly confused.

The idea of people approaching twins to basically say, "Hey, you're twins. Heavens to Betsy. Twins, are you?" and so on

Holy fok. People really do that? Well apparently so. With regularity.

It does not elevate my already somewhat low opinion of the human race.

At least the Rain parents didn't go with the alliterative names. I recall two sets of identical twins from grade school and their names were Barbara/Brenda and Denise/Doreen.

Seems to me like that would contribute to the 2-halves-of-one-complete-person psychology. I dunno, somehow.

A strange memory of Denise and Doreen. One time - grade 6 - they were in different classes and they switched. Trying to remember if it was their idea or in fact the one teacher was behind it.

Whatever, one of them was in my class. That day of course it was the other one. Anyway at some point the other teacher more-or-less barges into our classroom with the other twin and says she wants her proper twin back. Here's the fokked up part: she says she figured it out because the one in her class that day didn't know something that she would have expected her usual twin to know for sure.

The strong implication was she was calling the one twin stupider than the other in front of everyone.

There were no consequences or anything - other than me remembering it to this day. Just something that happened.

What a dick.
