That's millions of dollars for a broken brand and shitty software though.

Someone in the position of Pinnacle I can see doing it. To rival Betfair?

That's what I don't get. Why buy it? They were allegedly offering it to the costa rican books almost 2 years ago for virtually nothing, and none of them wanted it. So why buy it now? Some guy at 2p2 is one of the buyers I guess or something and is answering questions: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/4...ding-sbr-matchbook-leaving-u-s-market-988577/ says they have good software. lol.

only way I'd want to buy matchbook would be if I didn't have to pay all the customers

just paying off all the americans is quite a bit of money. Whole thing is hard to fathom. Matchbook was very poorly run. An exchange done right would be a boon to whoever owned it. I'd rather start from scratch than shell out whatever it cost them.

They could certainly improve the front end AJAX implementation, but the API is pretty solid and complete (so long as the entire site is up and running). That's a lot of work to bypass if you're looking to startup. I'm not sure it was a good purchase though. It was on the market for about $250k or less at one point. However, if you're going to eliminate U.S. clientele, you're essentially just buying the software and moderate name recognition.

And even if the new ownership has deep pockets, all they got is some shaky software and a clientele of (how many?) sharper than average, non-American players who will flee the place as soon as they align their commission structure with that of Betfair. Which seems inevitable.

Suicide.
