As for golf itself this is great though. The game should never be about THAT GUY, it should be about the game itself. There are a great number of talented players and there are an incredible amount of talented guys on their way up.

I guess that's what the marketers are trying to tell themselves but I don't buy it. The game should be about THAT GUY.

That's what generates the interest and makes the money.

Sure there are purists but they will be there no matter what. There are an awful lot of borderline guys like me who are a lot less likely to watch with no Tiger Woods angle.

If it wasn't for "that guy" (or similar focal points like Jordan or Gretsky) then a lot less people would watch or play the sport.
