I've noticed several mugshots where guys either have an open gash, or a big smushed up pile of skin right in the center of their forehead. Most of them have some kind of disturbance or resisting arrest charge.

I've concluded that the mark is from when the police smash their heads up against the hood of their car when making the arrest.

You even see it on COPS. You don't comply completely, you get the forehead smashed in.
