My quick impression: sounds like a very typical story of someone that suffers from depression. These feelings are experienced by people of all races, ages, minorities, majorities, good parents or horrible. Doesn't matter the circumstances growing up or the playing of football or whatever - the details are interchangeable. If you got it, your brain is going to make things seem awkward and self-conscious and sucky.
