the fact is, I bet in reality many truly non able bodied, older, more mentally ill Homeless people don't have enough given to them.

so the quixotic notion of "there being enough to go around sucks", because it quite literally might take a few bucks out of the begging jars of some truly needy a block down the street.

but yeah I bet that guy or gal appreciates art just like you

Archie, he's not on the opposite side of those people. He's asserting he's rights and refuses to be beaten down, and in so doing he can be an inspiration. He's doesn't appreciate art, he's a walking piece of art, and I appreciate it :winkwink:
 
I want the 35 cents or 1 buck I give to make myself feel better go to a guy or gal that REALLY needs the drink because he has NO chance of scoring any butterface pussy and stealing her drug stash.

Are we such a sad society that we're gonna begrudge a young homeless guy a bottle of cheap vodka?
If we really care about the poor, ill, etc we need to build an infrastructure that supports and empowers all people. Not support expansion of business at all cost.

I'm not convinced the haters care about the "deserving" homeless. More likely jealous, because we have been taught we have to work meaningless mind numbing jobs to have some of the things that he already has. He is supposed to be beneath us. He is acting uppity. unacceptable :cop:
 
What if we don't work meaningless mind numbing jobs? What if we are working a job that will have an impact for years and generations to come and are intellectually stimulated and actually like what we do?

Then can I judge?

I am curious what percentage of the long term homeless are not addicts of some sort or mentally ill. I can't think it's a big number.

I think I heard a that most Americans are 2 paychecks away from being homeless or something. I'l have to double check that. But in the long term, I would imagine most would opt out of that lifestyle if not for one of those two afflictions.

what we typically categorize as the face of "homeless" is usually pretty far off.

a large % of the homeless people aren't actually in shelters or sleeping on benches and cardboard

they are with their friends and relatives.

so yeah, the shelter, bench, cardboard crowd is very very very high in the commorbidity of substance abuse and mental illness but in terms of actual "homeless" it is not as high as you think.

just a month ago, I found out about two families in our program that have been without a home for almost our entire summer. one family with 3 kids and one with 2. One single mom and one married couple.

out of close to 100 families we serve, I would have picked these particular two, to be near the bottom in expectancy to be homeless. So I guess I still have alot to learn in regards to this as well. both families have 1 working adult.

but our neighborhood is undergoing some weird pre-gentrification issues where renters are being booted and its impossible to get approved for a loan to buy in.
