If someone kills him, I'll stick up for dead Houser every time. Again, even being a racist isn't a criminal act. Killing someone is. You can't justify that racist behavior, but you can't condone killing him for it either. So, back to my initial point, you can't litigate good taste. Same argument over pornography.
What if they don't kill him, they just beat the crap out of him? I don't think anyone is condoning the killings, but they are condoning the racist behavior in the name of free speech. Sure it is not a crime, but it should then be universally applied. Let's say the paper had been doing caricatures of jews (which as Vagabond pointed out got a Hebdo employee fired) or blacks repeatedly which were completely offensive. Of course, again no way you could condone killing for that...but would people in America be locking arms and screaming about freedom of the press? I don't think so. ..and btw, you can't deny the Holocaust in Germany.
I think you meant legislate good taste, not litigate,...and maybe morality is the better term, but understood. I just don't see how repeated poking at something sacred to a large group of the world's population (more concerned with the non-extreme Muslims) does anyone any good. Is it sad? Of course. Wrong? of course? Unexpected? Surprised it didn't happen earlier.
