Youth Sports Awards Have Value: The Case for Recognizing Effort

I find it insulting to the kids. Like he thinks you give them a participation trophy and they're going to take it like they won a championship.

If it's a participation trophy, I would assume they know how little it means and value it accordingly. Everbody's got one and it's not particularly special. Obviously.

Harrison is projecting. He's thinking they'll take it to be equal to trophies he won when he was a kid.

i.e. - he thinks they're retarded.

Exactly. Any reasonable kid is going to know it's a stupid non-trophy and treat it accordingly.

It's obviously a trophy-making racket.

Fokkin' shady trophy-makers.

:mudcat:

Edit - I see I'm late to the party.

I ain't taking it back.

In a related story, a 10-year-old boy received a participation trophy for his soccer league - which all the other boys also got - but he didn't understand what the trophy meant and he thought he had won the Super Bowl - so he got really happy - and then he drank a lot of Coke and ate some cake - and he was running around and laughing - but then some guys that had actually won the Super Bowl thought it wasn't right he should be as happy as them.

So they shot him in the face.

Not quite sure the moral of the story but I'm positive it involves hell and a handbasket.
