Is Fight Club the best movie ever?

not even close, my friend made me watch it a long time ago, I guessed that there was a "gimmick" in like the first 5 minutes, was bored out of my mind, I wound up just seeing how many lines I could predict to my friend

I never watch movies, for exactly that reason, because they're SO predictable in a way that makes me feel like "I am not the target audience here. Why am I wasting my time? I'd rather be doing something productive or at least looking at porn"

But I will say fight club wasnt nearly as bad as the other movie he made me watch, which was vanilla sky

I never ever watch "hip edgy" movies like fight club or quentin tarantino or any of that crap

Comedies are great especially "Black" comedies like Big Momma's House or really anything with Martin Lawrence, or anything thats GOOD like borat and stuff like that

Or, documentaries

but pretentious movie crap, i cant watch it for more than one minute. Basically, I hate writers, I hate actors, I hate directors, I hate all of them. Now obviously I am painting with too broad of a brush, because some great shows and movies DO get made, and they have writers and actors and directors in them

But in general I never watch movies, I've literally been inside a movie theater maybe 3 or 4 times since I was 20, and thats just been mostly on dates or things like that.

Vanilla Sky was so bad that I was personally insulted by the time I spent sitting down for it.

Nuff said.

stevek...please buddy, as a person who has shit to do 18hrs. a day (guesstimation) i pride myself on quawwiddy movies (check uglyluck.com videos for reference)

nothing typical bout my movie reviews... the movie was good...but , thats it, good. waaaayyyy tooo many movies, 20 yrs older too name off that are better. and it doesnt even have to be the normal gangster movies...., goodfellas scarface,godfather..etc...

now, if you wanna say its one of the best 25 or 50 movies since 1999, well, then i agree

I agree possibly on Goodfellas for about 70% of the movie, but let's face it with Scarface - besides shock value how great is it really besides being an inspiration to wanna be gangsters? Godfather puts me to sleep honestly except the horse's head.

Personally I think when you include the ending it's not close. Fight Club smashes Scar Face and keeps you going more than Godfather. Goodfellas is tough though, flip a coin imo.

im glad we can agree to disagree... i do like the movie btw, but imo, nowhere near the best ive seen...even in the last 10 yrs....not even close.... without totally derailing the thread, i could give you a small list of movies that were much better (imo, of course) in the last 10 yrs or so

I would enjoy that list, I thought the other movies you brought up were very credible.

Tough list for me to generate myself as I grow older I will say that.

cool...im not one of the older members of the board, but at 37, im nowhere near the youngest either...

again, dont get me wrong, i loved me some fight club...some others, in no particular order, i found to be more up my minds alley...

keep in mind that i am quite drunk and cant sleep cus the gf snores louder than a huge fucking farm animal, but heres what i got on top of my head for at least a handful or so that i would watch again...

mr. brooks, fracture, the departed(i could really give a handful of dicaprio movies) , man on wire(doc. really), no country for old men, moon (which i found awesome... though rarely seen by many) .. american gangster...

again, im drunk as fuck and aint saying that i didnt like the movie...we all have our reasons for likes and dislikes, but off the top of my dogfish head right now, i would watch these again before i would watch fightclub....

and you cant even get me started on the caddyshack, dumb and dumber, vacation etc. of comedies

34 myself so I certainly can relate and I have paid some good $ from when I lived in central PA for some Dogfish Head myself. Damn good stuff I'm somewhat jealous there.

Good call on Fracture. Monster flick. Departed - I'm always hesitant to give Leonardo his due if for no other reason than overexposure but shit that movie was borderline perfect in my opinion.

American Gangster I agree was amazing and funny about Mr. Brooks I hated it at first but I caught it the other day as I was falling asleep and it was pretty good.

I'll captur this 90 minutes or whatever of sleep, be good man.

great book, palahnuik is a pretty damn good author.

great director, fincher knows what he is doing.

bold move steve, impossible to call out the greatest movie of all time.
