What is your view on the whole prescription drug addiction problem in this country?

I'll get slammed either way on this one. I don't like medications however at times they are necessary to save lives. I can speak from experience. I was treating this engineer who was totally wacked out... unkempt, thought he was God, aggressive. I left the organization and ran into him on the street at the CVS. I didn't even know who he was...turns out he was taking Clozaril (it was a new drug at the time)...seemed 100% normal. It was the drug...he was ill for 5 years prior to trying this new medication.

How do you treat Bipolar and ADHD? It is way over-diagnosed at times but a rapid cycler (bipolar-manic-depressive with extreme mood swings) needs something like Lithium to at least stabilize while they get their life in order. I seen some crazy kids, going a mile a minute and then all a sudden chill out with even then non-stimulant ADHD medications.

So talk first, medications second but I can't intelligently say ALL medications are unnecessary.

I think Ken was maxed out and owed big money. He valued money more than his life.

God knows...I just like living. I guess his life was really in jeopardy or something really big was hanging over his head. He could have picked up and went anywhere. I find it interesting that about 30% of people who commit suicide are actually "Clinically" depressed. Many would argue is how someone thinks they are solving a problem.

The one thought that has stuck with me is how he always said bad publicity was good publicity as long as people were talking about you. In a perverse way I think he would have enjoyed all this attention. Does that make sense?

I feel very sorry for her kids, grandkids and Mo & Blondie.

That's the thing...almost like a betrayal as I feel he left Mo hanging almost like a kid with no parents. I mean no disrespect (he has his mother) but from my posts I think he really looked up to him and let him down. I think a lot of us enjoy attention (see all the locks threads) but I see where you're coming from. No one will admit it but only the most successful poster can create a thread and get no views and continue posting...lol

People are overmedicated and they don't follow what doctors prescribe i.e taking 3 Vicodin when it says one. Ken had a drug problem at one time but again I feel he placed too much value on money.

You like living....NAHHH! Always have a grin on your face :)

Pain meds are a whole different story...THEY WORK.

If you ever have time do research on the double-blind placebo effect, that is, someone feels better because they sense they are getting the medication with the active ingredient. In the past they would give chalk or sugar pills. More current research using advance techniques (just remove the active ingredient from placebo) show the efficacy of real med vs. placebo to be less significant 8-weeks out with anti-depressants. It's about $$$

Nice post Inner but do you think painkiller abuse is a HUGE problem right now?

Yes. Overall, abuse of opiates is HUGE...some get addicted by accident. Others just choose to get their highs the safe (you know they exact dosage) and legal way (if you have a doctor willing to prescribe them)...I'm referring specifically to Oxy's, Vikes, Percs, etc.

Very well put. That is my opinion as well. I think some of it is attributed to the pharmaceutical companies who almost invent "diseases." I think people in our society are often so lazy that they think they can pop a pill and all will be better rather than deal directly with the underlying cause of their "condition."
