Canada outhustled them in that game. U.S. played much better offensively yesterday. I seriously take my hat off to them for putting in a decent effort in this tournament.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that this wasn't intended to be a backhanded compliment, but I think the US gave more than just a "decent" effort this tournament. I thought they played their hearts out and we are all pretty proud of their showing. Maybe that's as close as a Canadian homer can come to complimenting a team other than his own though. I don't know.

Also, I disagree that Canada outhustled USA in the first matchup. I thought it was quite the opposite in that one.

It wasn't a backhanded compliment at all. The U.S. had amazing goaltending and kept his team competitive.

Canada outshot the U.S. in the first game by a 2-1 margin. This doesn't happen by pure luck. It happens by outhustling yoru opponent in every aspect of the game.

I don't think it's that simple Pucky. I think it was a combination of talent and game planning. They knew they had no chance to survive in a shootout type of game with the likes of Canada and planned accordingly. For instance, I thought Kessler's empty netter at the end was a microcosm of the hustle displayed by the US all game.

Are you serious Reno? You thought Slovakia played like shit?

actually they played some of the better games. The Czech-Slovakia game was a good one. They did beat the pathetic Russian team and the half asleep Swedes. But the fact that they were the only European team that showed any interest is pretty sad.
Against the Canadians they kind of tanked too. They showed that they could play in the last ten minutes, but the rest of the game was snooze worthy. They were actually getting the better of the Canadians in the hits and forecheck departments, but it seems they intended to win 0-0. No offensive support.

I know everybody's excited about US - Canada finals. But there weren't many competitive games on a high level, and we didn't get to see anything special from Europe like we used to. US- Canada was basically another nhl game. Nothing special.

Jello, basically what pucky is trying to say is that the US were not competitive at all. If say Bobby Ryan got lucky and put in the OT winning goal instead of Crosby and the US were 2-0 against Canada in the tourny and Gold medal winners, Pucky's response would have been the inferior team won and that it wasn't deserved. Thats canuckian logic for you.

That's not true Blitty. They competed in last night's gold meddle game. I was very impressed with Miller and a couple others. Parise is a fantastic player (no wonder his dad is a canadian and former NHL'er) and Bobby Ryan will be a future star. Kessel on the other hand was invisible. No surprise there. Brian Burke must be second guessing his trade for him.
