Just like all the people who worship Loshak went to bat for Pally? I'll match my Herman up against your Loshak anyday of the week. We all find certain people that are easy to identify with and others that behave in a manner we find repulsive. The measurement between a phony bigot who works for a company bent on exploiting addicts and a young man living in his parents' basement and working to lose his virginity is entirely a qualitative one and something we'll never agree on.

We all have different criteria for what constitutes the "good man" and just because mine seem in the minority makes me no less eager to defend them.

The difference, RS, is that nobody threatened to leave the forum, nor did they attempt to put themselves on a pedestal above other posters because of their friendship with him. They weren't saying that they strive for so much more in life, blah, blah, blah. Listen to yourself with an outside perspective. The scenarios aren't close to analogous and you know it. You can try to convince yourself otherwise, but we all know the truth. And you do too. You just won't admit it.

Yeah, actually Herman called me that evening to set things straight, as it were. We enjoy something of an understanding, and even when we butt heads I find it hard not to accept where he's coming from. He could've employed more tact in his response to my input, but the fact that he cared enough to call me about it meant a great deal. That's why I'm going to bat for him, and also because I thought this thread took a turn for a voyeuristic level that I had come to despise. I took a step back from this stuff when that incessant and idiotic "pics or ban" mantra started being thrown about.

Dude, of all the people to cry foul about putting themselves on a pedestal, you might have the shortest leg to stand on. The leitmotif of every meaningful thread you enter is that you know all and that everyone else is stupid. I'm not saying that some of my statements can't be interpreted as self-aggrandizing, but at least I'll always take the time to restate my opinions in the hope of better articulating my positions. You give it one quick paragraph and then spend four pages calling people retards. Pot, meet kettle.
