Muddy I think the best you can do is to gauge the perfect distance to keep from her while reminding her that you're just a phone call away, should she need your level-headed Yoda-ness (and overalll good looks.)

I won't give you advice, but I'll show you this.
It's a story about a couple that learns how to grow and live when one of them is diagnosed with terminal brain tumor. A story about a musician and a thief and how they evolve above society, above the disease, above their fear. All the hard stuff. I saw it a long time ago, in another lifetime in another land, one of the best serials I have seen.
I hope you don't just brush it off as foreign crap and give it a try. I have seen people dismiss it, it might not be easy to digest if you're not familiar with culture in the east, but it's an excellent production about the rehabilitation of the heart. I think you should see it before acting. You're going to appreciate the music aspect. Lots of similarities to your situation. It's Korean, you can watch all 20 full episodes here...
