Congrats Muddy! Hope it all goes smoothly - it's probably a good thing for the Mom to be in such good shape. Hell, I guess it explains the pregnancy in the first place.

I envy your uncle-ness. The twin brother and I are both hoping for the other to have a kid first, if only to put an end to our Mom's pressure, but also to be able to experience a non-committing, trial-period form of parenthood.

in the butt = no kids

Oh.

As an aside, I'd just like to throw out my thoughts on the whole imperative to "carry on the family line." In my estimation, there are fewer crocks of bullshit larger than this cultural "must-do." It seems most arrogant to me that I would consider the genes of my family or myself to be superior to anyone else's. We are all human, just as we are all God's children, and none of us should feel bound to reproduce in the hopes of ensuring the survival of our unique quirks, talents, or even shortcomings. The world is bigger than that these days, and if you feel compelled to contribute to our collective improvement, then please just do it yourself. I see far too many people in my immediate surroundings that are procreating simply to avoid being left out, people that are more motivated by the end -result of having offspring without ever having made a personal committment to cultivating their character in the manner which befits good and thoughtful parents.

Well said.

Mudcat, best wishes to your sister. My sister recently had a baby in her 40s, and my new niece is a pretty amazing kid.

Rest assured, Uncle Muddy, that due to her age, her doctors will take extra special care. She will be considered "high risk" due to her age. There are perks with that. She will have more somograms done than someone 20 years younger. My sister was considered high risk when she had twins.

Mudcat her being in good physical condition is a huge positive.

I'm assuming she will be getting an amnio done at the appropriate time?

I'm assuming so too. I don't know. The situation is weird. I got this news yesterday morning via e-mail. It was sent from Banff/Lake Louise where she and her husband are on a ski vacation. How that triggered the release of this information, I don't know. And I have limited detail.

Well get a load of young Andrew. Just about ready to put on skates, I think.

That's awesome. Congratulations Uncle Muddy!

That's a fine name for a young man, by the way.

Andrew = my middle name

Here is his first pic with Uncle Mudcat who has no idea how to hold a baby but I guess is going to learn many things in the coming years.

Everyone is completely healthy and happy by the way. He's a 7 pounder.
