It seems slightly odd in retrospect that neither cop commented that I was not wearing a helmet. Nor did they lecture me about driving around at night with no light on my bike dressed mostly in black. Hmm. I wonder if it is harder for cops to lecture guys who are the same age as their fathers.

I have been lectured on that many times by many people. I am careless. I am reckless. I know.

The only weak defense I have is that my bike has reflectors and my black winter coat has reflective strips. At least I think those things are reflective strips. I have never seen it from a distance to know for sure.
