Not calling it marriage seems like an unnecessary and probably ineffective end-around to me. Let gays have the same rights as everyone. Let them do whatever they want and call it whatever they want. The people who have a problem with it are the ones who need to adjust.

Cougey the States are already pretty segregated, I don't think it can get any better for yall. Like vagabond says in that thread income is what bands/disbands people in the US the most, but not a real cultural problem. France/Sweden is the perfect example how much worse it can be culturally.

culture can evolve in whatever direction. I don't think it's always randomness or an enlightened populace pushing it in various directions. More likely it is pushed by those in some power that stand to benefit financially, politically etc. Resisting is not automatically a sign of weakness or fear but can in fact be enlightenment.

The gay thing has zero to do with someone benefitting financially or politically. Those can be a byproduct of it though.
