Probably 20-30 entries, no upset points. Scoring system is a standard x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x
ok small. yeah If its one of those huge pools, you know there will be many identical brackets from squares.
which brings up another question. Are these knowledgeable basketball fans? or the casual-non fan types that will have all #1's in their final 4? all 1-2-3's in the sweet 16 ect?
working backwards, obviously anyone that has the champion picked is gonna be in contention for winning the pool.
I wouldn't worry too much about upsets in the first round, unless you really really think there is a good chance for it.
its worth risking the upsets in the first round on a team you see losing in the 2nd round anyways.... especially if its a 11 vs 6 game where the spread is only 3-5 points
same goes for the projected 2nd round matchups. after that I wouldn't any chances.
I think even the public thinks that 12's beat 5's more often than not now. I'm taking all 5's in some of my polls just on that principle. even though I don't like the 5 teams very much
I mean if it is a typical office pool, you just pick favs on the high seeds, and fade the public on the in between ones.
great examples of the picks i'm talking about...are:
taking mizzou at pk and 11 seed over cincy
Marquette at +1.5 and 11 seed over xavier
florida st at -1 and 10 seed over A&M
pretty much taking all 9 seeds over 8 seeds
because when in doubt, non hoops fans will take the college (not the team) they've heard of the most, or just take the better seed to win. which as vegas shows us, ISN'T always the fav
