From an American sports perspective, MLB is pretty much all there is to bet on for a significant portion of the year (especially after the NHL/NBA post season). Offering dime lines entices bettors in the slow season.

from what i've heard, alot of books are okay with losing some $ in bases, as long as it brings/keeps customers for football mostly, and hoops to a certain extent
