In less than a week, Price went from being our #1 starter going into the playoffs to a reliever you bring in when you're up 7-1.

Utility arm to save our relief guys, I guess?

Because we don't want to use our relief pitchers when you're up 7-1?

Or something?

Desperate measures to win the series is all.

I, as a purist, get it.

I think Gibbons has it in his head that his relievers should only go 1 inning. That's why he used Price. Since he made the decision, right or wrong, to pull Dickey with still so many innings left, he couldn't finish the game with his bullpen without having someone come out for more than one inning.

He didn't want to mess with anybody's routines.

I would not sign Price in the off-season to any kind of 7-year deal at 30 million per by the way.

I was saying this before Gibby started monkeying with him and getting the crap results he's gotten - back when he had played an important role in a stretch drive including some critical games. And I assume he will be one of the top few guys in the Cy Young voting - again.

But no.

I am aware of the stock dipshit response to this: What do you care? Is it your money?

To which I reply, "You dipshit. Unless the Blue Jays are suddenly going to have an unlimited budget for salaries - which would be a huge surprise to me - in fact, let's just be non-dipshits and say they're not - then value for the dollar is as important discussion as you can have."

David Price at that rate and term? And I wouldn't be surprised if it actually ends up taking more than that to sign him.

No.

Unless the Jays can pluck a Cy Young pitcher out of their ass, they should make an effort to resign Price. Honestly, I don't care if the last 8 years of his contract is an albatross. They need to make an attempt to keep as much as this team together as possible for another run or two. All these guys are in their prime. Who gives a fuck about roster flexibility in 2019. Strike while the iron is hot.

I wonder what Marco Estrada will go for. Could maybe get him for 8-9 million per for like 3 years. I'd go for that. He's only had the one good year so it could blow up in your face but it could also end up a huge bargain like the Bautista/Encarnacion deals.

Kinda wish they had negotiated something in-season. It's always worse when you're bidding against the whole world.

But maybe they tried and couldn't swing anything.

That is the Cubs reasoning with Lester. A team can afford one of those dead contracts - it's when you have 3-4 of those is when you have a problem. I'm sure the usual suspects will try to lure him.

Can't also ignore what the Jays gave up for Price and even Dickey. The farm has been depleted and there really isn't much of a future once this core is finished. It'll be a Phillies situation.

But I understand the logic. You don't really want to get saddled with a Pujols type contract.

Jays have some wonderful young pitchers to build around for the long term. Sanchez, Osuna, Stroman. Maybe Hutchison. Looks like a pretty good core of a rotation to me while we develop some more.

I have a lot of faith in Alex to creatively fill in the gaps. He was making great moves way before this trading deadline going all the way back to unloading the non-unloadable Vernon Wells contract. Alex Rios. The Marlins deal was great work on his part which underperformed through no fault of his own.

In Alex we trust. Except for hiring managers.

Now we gotta make sure we keep Alex.

Heard something funny today.

Something like Ramen is very important to Japanese culture, where as, if it's made elsewhere in the world it doesn't count has being culinarily delectable.

Kind of like if Canada wins the World Series. No one cares.

I think I botched it.
