Found some water in the basement last night...appeared to be coming from the a/c/furnace thing...I took out the filter which was filthy and will replace when I'm able to get out. For now however, am I ok to turn on the a/c without the filter for a day or two? What about heat? I know NOTHING about HVAC stuff. I am also assuming the leak has to do with the dirty filter? I have no idea when it was changed last...it is just one of those things I don't think about.

I could also google this, but I have, and I have seen different opinions on the answer.

I think I will put all my home related questions in this thread.

it aint no biggie, iga... a few days is nothing... but you should be changing that filter every month or two (at the latest) .. i suggest running to lowes/home depot and getting one and then ordering a dozen for cheap online...obv. make sure you get the right size

I'm not sure if it's recommended, but I don't think you're house will blow up. Why couldn't you leave the dirty filter on?
Cuz when I pulled it out, it essentially self destructed. It came out separated from the wire casing.

Yeah..I need to put it on a calendar or something. I have no idea when it was last changed. It could have been a year. I can say with certainty at least 6 months. I know we bought some better ones last time around. I will go tomorrow or Monday and get some.

C'mon. Poke around a little and find the tube goes to the outside.
Well fok. Hold on.

Ok well I found a couple of possibilities, but they don't appear to be clogged or dislodged. Then again I did not probe all that much. I will get the new filter and if it still leaks... (water appears to be coming directly from under the unit btw,) I will call a professional. No one got time for that!
