Jimi Hendrix made Eric Clapton's past, present and future completely unrelvant.

How so?

Clapton will tell you Hendrix was way better than he is, same thing he says about SRV. And I agree completely, I like both em them better than clapton. But, that doesnt take away from the sweetness that is Clapton.

Excellent post. The thing I love about Clapton is how he still records with guys like JJ Cale, guys from the tulsa music scene , blues guys. From a financial perspective, these are people he doesnt need to record with these guys to maintain his various homes around the world , like the albums so many many rock guys put out with their latter careers to pay the mortgage on that estate in the cotswolds, home in the islands, etc.Though I am sure he has all these.

He really loves making music and has never lost that edge in his playing and his voice. I saw John lee Hooker in san francisco and he was in his late 70s and it was incredible, his voice and his guitar tone were incredible, some guys age and their voice and playing just ages like good wine.

Clapton has had some tragic periods where he totally lost his way, but the thing about clapton, its not just his guitar , it's his voice. That break in Badge, unreal.

I would have to go with the Wilbury's since their first album was released in October 1988 and Roy died in December of 1988 if that isn't short lived I don't know what is. Ya I know they released a follow up album without him, however you will never see talent like that together.

I don't consider Cream short lived but it is certainly one of the best supergroups off all time.

Yeah yeah. Clapton depresses me. Flat, uninspiring voice. Same thing with the guitar work. 3 Matty Rains.

SRV is a glorified karaoke artist. 5 Matty Rains bonus for that godly guitar tone and extra-aggressive style. 6 Matty Rains total.
