Yep, I get that. The stand-up has very little to do with what is interesting about Comedian.
You talked about relating to the how the character pushes people away and seems like he might die alone etc. That's one of a few themes that are looked at in Comedian.
Ahh. Ok. It would just seem to me that a documentary wouldn't serve this type of narrative as well. I can't imagine that there is much in the way of resolution there. It's really not the fact of him pushing people away that was of interest per se but the insight into how he is forced to deal with what he has done in the past in the wake of his diagnosis that made the tale meaningful.
