"PHILADELPHIA (AP)The Flyers placed goaltender Michael Leighton(notes) on re-entry waivers on Tuesday with the hope that he can rejoin Philadelphias postseason roster.
General manager Paul Holmgren confirmed the move, which allows a 24-hour period for other teams to claim him at half of his remaining contract, while the Flyers would pay the other half. If he is unclaimed by noon on Wednesday, he would be able to join the Flyers again.
Leighton, 29, one of many heroes in Philadelphias improbable run to the Stanley Cup Finals last season as a No. 7 seed, was originally placed on waivers on Jan. 3.
Hes been in the AHL ever since, while the Flyers went with the goalie tandem of rookie Sergei Bobrovsky(notes) and veteran Brian Boucher(notes). But the Flyers have struggled of late, so maybe this move is a motivator of sorts. Heading into Tuesdays game at Ottawa, Philadelphia had lost three in a row, and four of five.
Leighton is fresh off consecutive shutouts with the Adirondack Phantoms. In 30 AHL games, he has a 14-12-3 record, with a 2.22 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. He has five shutouts, which ties him for sixth in the AHL." - Yahoo Sports
A little shout out to the boys from management, eh?
I like it.
