Anyway, apparently I lied because I said I would be monitoring and I haven't paid an inch of attention up until checking the score just now.

I don't believe I will start watching at this point.

Me personally, I hope you are not going to do this. Seems like a whole lotta cumbersome which I would rather not be looking at.

I didn't think about it at the time but I'm not even sure where the idea came from. It would make sense if I thought you were aggressively anti-Canadian and you need some comeuppance, but I never thought that.

Okay the Olympics. That's makes sense. Countries have cumulative medal totals and it's the difference between a medal or no.

But a stand alone tournament? Ugh.

Can you imagine if the NFL tried to introduce that? No one loves the dollar more than the NFL and no one has more of a propensity to capitalize on every opportunity. But a 3 versus 4 consolation semi? It is a level of pointlessness that cannot be abided.

NCAA hoops might even make a little sense since there are so many teams, but they don't bother. Final 4. Good enough.

I know, some international hockey tournaments do it besides the Olympics. They need to fucking stop.

I just don't see that much more meaning in one game vs another. International games are always more meaningful imo.

Besides, should all the pro sport teams stop playing once they're eliminated from the playoffs?

Someone could end a career in a meaningless game playing for 3rd place.

Why are international games more meaningful? I think they suck as they are glorified all-star rosters.

Why didn't teams stop playing when they were eliminated from WC? Because their games affected others. Same basic premise in US sports.
 
thats a stretch. There are many more meaningless games than a third place game of a World Championship. That should be self evident.

in terms of international competition, playing for tops in the world is more interesting than playing for tops on your block. I think this also is obvious everywhere else.

I never understood how you guys can find interest in school sports but refuse to watch international :dunno:
