Two of my favorite best-worst actors ever.

I mean...Laura Dern, in a limited role...almost, ...ALMOST!!! ruined A Perfect World! A perfect movie!!!

But she didn't. All good :) :crown:

For me it is not even close. The Straight Story. I consider that a great movie. I don't hate his other stuff but it is too pretentious and self-indulgent for my taste.

The Straight Story is an 8.5 out of 10 for me where the other stuff is in the low 5's. Mind you, it's been awhile since I saw Lost Highway and Mulholland. I saw Blue Velvet recently. 5.2 out of 10.

Nicely put Muddy. I've never seen any of these movies so I can't say and never heard of David Lynch, but saw his pic and looks like an interesting dood.

Can't stand a movie that expects me to suspend disbelief too often or too long.

It's a matter of taste. Lynch's directorial style reminds me in some ways of Oliver Stone. Even though he is not on the screen he is always doing little (or big) gestures to remind you he is there.

Spike Lee is another director who shows that tendency. Sometimes I feel like he's almost shouting, "Hey, see what I can do?"

I am more a fan of the Clint Eastwood style of straight story-telling where you barely think about the director until the closing credits. In fact Lynch's The Straight Story is a good example of that.

As I say, a matter of taste. And it's not black and white anyway. I love the Coen Brothers but they have their indulgences no doubt. Drama and comedy and art film all have different requirements.

Good topic. I like movie topics.
