I do like these guys too but why do people seem to come over to GL when they want to a crap?

It's not "taking a crap" to everyone. I see it as a long overdue kick in the complacency. You don't have to fawn over your friends all day and night to appreciate them. Maybe it's because I don't do any of that social networking shit, but to me this place doesn't seem so much like a forum as a group calendar. Doesn't anybody disagree about things anymore?

I measure my friends by their ability to articulate arguments that I wouldn't naturally explore myself. You never really get to see that unless you take a stand on something and invite others to challenge you. I'm sure in the middle of a circle jerk, inciting a difference of opinion is seen as "taking a crap," but I don't think it's a fair characterization overall.

RS, I see your point and you have much more experience at forumville than me so I always appreciate your opinions. Maybe GL just doesn't have enough posters here to have differing views?

I think it has more to do with the attachment that people feel here. Topics have to be exquisitely chosen so as not to offend anyone, or you instantly encounter the defensiveness typical when one member of a tight-knit group feels threatened. It is what it is, you guys are obviously close friends and that's going to make it difficult to sustain much diversity in the long-run; people who want to hang here will either have to abandon some of their individuality to fit in or they'll just have to find another place to post. I don't think it's either a good or a bad thing, but I think you guys should own it rather than pretend that anyone who gets tired of the Pollyanna version of GL is just a worthless nincompoop whom you're better off without.

This place has amazing visibility for a small forum but still doesn't have anything remotely resembling vibrancy or diversity. The long-term problem with that is that all voluntary social connections eventually erode with time and this place could fade away with them if there isn't more of an effort to accept those who have no interest in the group calendar-type stuff.

PSS I try to like everyone but sometimes I don't like the things that people do or say that I don't like!

PSSS I like Michael Vick and hope that he keeps up how he is acting off the field as well. Hear him talk every day on local Philly radio and he is saying all the right things and IMO are not scripted. Hopefully continues with his life turned around.

PSSSS D. McNabb is a model citizen second to none but the guy every time he talked it appeared scripted. Not that he was a bad guy but just talk to us straight dude.
