Do you ever feel too old to "get it" at Gaymelive?

Time to come clean.

I'm Shanty.

The joke has gone on long enough.

But to address the other matter....I also think some people are going on about the Die Antwoord thing a bit too much.

I'm seeing middle ground here on all sides.

I’m not sure if I feel too old to post here at times but I do feel as though the is a concerted effort on the part of the core group to make certain things more of a big deal than they are.

Maybe Die Antwood really is all the rage around here but it seems forced. Maybe there are posters that believe Shanty is a real poster actually living in Pakistan but it just seems phony. Sometimes it’s like there is such an effort to make things appear to be more cool or hip than they really are or an attempt to make certain conversation more or less relevant than they are.

It does seem at times it becomes a competition around here to see who can make the most outlandish thing all the rage. Whether that is a misconception on my part or and inside joke on the part of others I don’t know.

None of this makes me not want to be here or I would have already been gone but it does make me not fully understand the makeup and the direction of the forum. I like the people that are here even if I don’t fully understand everyone.

I don’t spend every waking moment worrying about it but I would be lying if I didn’t sometimes wonder if I am too old, too irrelevant, not hip enough or just not cut out for certain places I post at.

This is a pretty astute post as a general observation. I don't see it being tied to age all that much; we have a guy as old and rickety and indeed decrepit as Acid Joe jumping right in on the hype machine complete with Die Antwoord avatars, while some of the younger guys don't seem interested at all - just as some young guys don't give a crap about shantystar.

But as a statement about the over-riding character of the forum, that concept of forced enthusiasms (for lack of a better term) is definitely one facet. Fortunately (for me) there are many other facets.

(One tangential point I have to make: I am as sure as I can be that shantystar is real. The ghost theories I have seen make no sense. I mean, if you can only see one inch in front of your nose, then I can see the misconception; suddenly there was a big forced hype about a poster so it is natural to speculate it is a ghost. But if you have any knowledge of forum history it makes no sense. Shanty has been around the forums much longer than most of the people I have seen accused of being him. For years, shanty was just a real weasel going from forum to forum making whiny, ridiculous accusations and filing real complaints at SBR and getting no attention other than being insulted for his bad english and being called a weasel. When you look at the mentality of people who run ghosts, there was just nothing happening to keep them going for a day, let alone years. Okay I know that has nothing to do with being too old for the forum but I feel a need to point that out every once in awhile).

Die Antwoord is only as big of a deal as you want it to be. So is Pappa George, so is Shanty, so is Stevies crazy affairs.
 at people who want to find direction, rules and agendas. The only plan is to avoid all of those. :up:Blitty

The Die Antwoord gamelive phenomena. I can't speak for everyone, only myself. I am a fan of music. I appreciate almost anything if it is musical or intelligent, despite the genre. But if you aren't a fan of hip hop, electro or groups with theatrical flair, you will not like Die Antwoord. Plain and simple.

Most of us who are intrigued by Die Antwoord have done our research. There is a whole back story to the project and the brilliant mind behind it.

The same concept applies to Shanty. If anyone really needs to know if shantystar/Asher John is a real person who posts from Pakistan, open your browser and do your own research.

If people really couldn't care less, I guess I just don't understand the need to enter threads referencing either just to say how much they think they suck.

What makeup and direction would you prefer? Maybe we could make a list of forum rules, would that help? How about another list that notes unacceptable words and thread subjects?

:aok:

Blitty, where in any of that does it say I want set rules or guidelines? here in any of wat I wrote does it even say anything negative? All I said basically is YES I sometimes don't get it but I also sometimes think GameLive doesn't want to be got.

Blitty I didn't make a comment or formulate an opinion about a direction I want to see GameLive go in. Why? Because I accept GameLive and it's members as is or else I wouldn't be here. Acepting and fully understanding don't have to go hand in hand Blitty.
