After hearing how the game on Thursday between the Twins and Rays was decided is just plain sad. What looks like a sky high popup final out of the inning turns into a hit and the winning run scoring.

Something about Tropicana Field having beams or something that very rarely can be hit but was in this game. My question would be why not just act like no pitch was made and disregard what happened?

Bigger problem seems to be Tropicana Field? Looking at attendance figures that last 3 years averaging only 22-23 k per game and in the teens before that. That dome look is has just doesn't do it? As sunny and lovely as Florida is you probably feel trapped inside?

With all the water around it's ashamed they can't build something like the Giants' park or something like the Phils have where some people just go for a day or night out on the town.

I know too hot in the summer but maybe schedule more night games and have some kind of retractable roof? Baseball in the Miami area seems to be a lost cause no matter what but the Suncoast IMO could have a viable product. :dunno:

I had no clue I won with Minny in that manner yesterday til I read about it today. On my updates it just showed as a "single." lol.

Don't let the Rays' whining fool you. They've been awarded several "homeruns" that hit the 3rd catwalk or whatever in the outfield that would've been long, high flyouts otherwise.

But yea, it still is pretty dumb. Shitty place for a ball game. Even shittier place for a concert.

Mr. M, the retractable roof stadium here in Miami should make a huge difference once it opens in 2012. The location of it at the site of the old Orange Bowl close to downtown gives much more of the Miami population easier access to the games. If they can build a contending team by 2012, which I think is very possible with the young talent they have in place, the Miami Marlins might become a pretty hot ticket.

New stadium won't matter...it isn't just the stadium it is the mindset of the area. People just don't care.

For the most part...people go to that area to die. People that don't, just don't care enough to go to a baseball game. Sure there are some businesses and corporations but rally not enough to support a team (because lets face it that is what really drives revenue). Then when you get a decent day that isn't humid as hell...who wants to sit inside at a game.....? no one.

I read somewhere that they get some of the best tv ratings for a small to mid market team...just people won't go out to see the team no matter how good they are.

A retractable roof should be the way to go. It constantly rains in Florida in the summer...huge downpours which last anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour. And then the sun comes out and you are in saunaville (which is unlike brocklandersville).

I would imagine Tampa will have a tough time getting any time of support from its voters to get a new stadium approved. The old timers there will reject any type of tax initiative necessary to get it funded.

Pavy, get to work on restructuring the Trop. What were they thinking when they built it like they did?

Tropicana Field has a unique slanted roof. The most recognizable exterior feature of Tropicana Field is the slanted roof. It was designed at an angle to reduce the interior volume in order to reduce cooling costs, and to better protect the stadium from hurricanes.

Looks like it was build that way to reduce cost. Apparently they were trying to make it not as tall so it will need less steel and concrete to resist the wind induced loads from hurricanes as well as have less volume of air to cool down and reduce the air-conditioning bills. They were not thinking about high towering baseballs hitting the roof.

MCB, just read where they did some renovations on the Trop a few years ago? No new stadium now probably for years. Live Sting Rays for the kids! I go to the zoo for that.

Do like the Phils did with plenty of drinking holes lined all around the place. I'm telling you it's like a club atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park with 20-30 year crowd there. Pretty soon they will have a live band and dance floor in the outfield.

Parents complain about not friendly for families with little kids. I'm sorry but no way I'm wasting money on the ticket on a 3-4-5 year old that don't know what the fuk is going on. MrsM and I would want to get away from the varmint!

I believe that a new stadium would work if they moved it to Tampa instead of St. Pete. Traffic just sucks getting there and leaving. They built the trop after MLB told them that they were NOT getting a franchise. They built it and didn't even have a use for it. They used it for a hockey rink and arena football field for years before they finally got a team. First the Giants then the White Sox were going to relocate here. When that fell through MLB finally allowed the Rays to form. By then the stadium was outdated and that was how many years ago?
