Are you using one?

We have an echo dot. Use it for timers, weather, sometimes ask what time some sports event is on (e.g. alexa, when do the Yankees play?). Don't know how useful they are.

Thoughts?

I used to think it was cool to say "Alexa play jazz" or "Alexa play reggae"


Haven't done that in a while though.

Yes. Sometimes it chimes on randomly which reminds me that Jeff Besos is constantly monitoring everything said in my apt... scary stuff... except for him knowing exactly when I need more filters for the cats water dish... that's less scary.

Mr. Nina has checked into the all the light fixtures, heat pump, and all other appliances that Alexa can operate.

She is fun for games too. During the week, just say Alexa play Jeopardy and you can play.

A friend of mine was telling me that they are basically giving these devices away because they will eventually roll out 'recommended advertising' as people start to learn to ask the devices for specific things. Say you're asking about buying a new phone or a computer, they will tell you that their company has a special on it. It's like people using FitBit, not knowing that their data is being sold and making the company large dollars...

Hard for me to stomach talking to electronics. When those phone operator machines expect you to "tell them what you're calling about". Fok that, I'll press a number, that's cool, but I ain't verbally explaining my issues to a machine

Just got a nest thermostat for the 2nd floor. Installed it all by myself.
