We did quite a bit....all over the country..but always in the car. We camped a lot.
...had this old "Rolite" camper that we would attach to the back of the car. LONG car road trips. I can still remember the smell of my parents drinking coffee in the car on a summer drive. I did not like that smell.

It was a rare treat to get to stay in a hotel/motel, but it was always something like a Super 8 or Motel 6 with the "free continental breakfast."

It was also a treat to stop at Mcdonald's or if lucky a DQ along the way.

It was usually just my parents and me and maybe my grandma. It's like there were two different families in my household due to the age difference. When I was 5 we drove to Boston for my brother's college graduation. I gather from the slides (pictures,) that my brothers did a lot of tent camping and very few hotel/motels also.

You and boner should get a room.

He had similar blue collar white trash adventures.
That wasn't the question. I was just thinking about my experiences as compared with my sibling's kids who have been all over the world multiple times...like you and Mr. X. I think it must be a generational thing for the most part. My dad wanted to go to travel to all 50 states (which he did) and probably that was the easiest way to accomplish that....plus he was thrifty. Not cheap like you, but thrifty.

Right...We went on the Maid of the Mist...Niagara Falls...I think there is a pic of mom and I on on my FB on that. I had my little boy "pixie" cut. Horrible.

My parents travelled a lot internationally once retired, but never when I was a kid...Canada was it.

Also why am I cheap and how do you differentiate thrifty?
I was just messing with you..I don't know if you are cheap or not. seems like I have read references to that effect before.

I guess I think of thrifty more as researching purchases for best value, buys on sales, saving money, and cheap as the same but to an extent where it is tacky or somehow affects someone else negatively. .. someone who tries to get out of paying his fair share of a bill or picks flowers from the cemetery for his girl.

No offense meant to those who may have done either of these things...I think I have seen both mentioned on the forum.
