Holy shit.

I mean I always knew that, but I didn't quite really put it into perspective until this week when I started working on a website archiving all my old shit. I mean I've been writing/podcasting/videoing sports without reprieve for like seven straight years now.

It's no wonder I can't figure out what I want to do with my life... when I look past sports media, I've never looked anywhere else.
 
Mixed bag, these obsessions. I devoted huge chunks of my life towards the idea that I was meant to be a writer. I made an honest effort at it from a few different angles but it didn't work out. Letting go of the obsession was the best thing that could have happened for my spiritual well-being. I'm free.

I kind of wish I had done more in terms of formal education and networking but whatever - I found something else that makes me happy. I still write music and maybe a miracle will happen but it's not important.
 
You're young, Dave. You shouldn't be in any immediate rush. Perhaps, you could get your foot in the door at a place like ESPN with some sort of menial labor position and gain some contacts. Sometimes you just have to put in your time. Maybe you're just looking for a home run rather than trying to put yourself on base.
 
Well Dave, do what you have to do, but don't lose sight of what you want to do. Hell, I always just wanted to make the world more like the Jetsons. I have never forgotten that, even while I was peddling automotive tools, and probably why I have a half built, half designed, half working robotic model that will someday, clean the house without breaking shit.

That's just a vacuum cleaner. I'm trying to create something that will clean the bathroom, dust everything, or wash and replace back where it belongs, does laundry using typical household washer dryer, installs dishes in the dishwasher and replaces them in the cabinet when the dishwasher is done, and vacuums. I actually have a design and a half built model, my main problem is getting the computing power and robust enough sensors to pull it off. I figure if I stay un-employed for another 5 years, I might have a workable model. Of course they will cost $30,000 a piece to buy which means that a Mexican illegal would be cheaper even with room and board.
