As far as I can tell, they organized some kind of response which I'm sure was no easy task within our shit maximize profit health care system (which undoubtedly leaves no room for emergency stockpiles of resources).

He defunded pandemic response program. We could have and would have been better prepared.

His (and anyone elses) resistance to masks is fucking stupid. They help. While the lockdowns/quarantine have pros and cons and are complicated and I'm fine with agreeing to disagree on, the POTUS encouraging morons not to wear masks because they look dumb or whatever has killed thousands of people. Period. With or without lockdowns, once scientific community agreed that masks helped, he should have been all-in on normalizing them.

You seem to give him credit for "opposing lockdowns", but he fucking didn't. It was just half assed shit across the board. Let the states decide, one day he's in favor of them, one day he's opposed. That's Trump in a nutshell, he's unconcsistent and lies relentlessly and just says whatever he thinks the person he's talking to wants to hear.

If he really thought lockdowns were a mistake he should have been consistently outspoken against them and done whatever he could ib his power to make them unconstitutional/pressure states to open. OR if he thought they were necessary he should have been just as assertive the other way. His wishywashyness on everything has us right where we are now, with no plan or cohesiveness across the nation at all.

But I wasted my time typing this because you still like him and it's the dems fault or whatever, right? It's just unreal to me anyone doesn't see this guy as the complete fucking fake and idiot that he is.

I get people voting for him over Biden for all kinds of reasons; disliking Biden, more right leaning views, etc etc. But actually liking this guy or thinking he's done a competent job with any of this? It's nuts to me.
 
No question in my mind that politics and the people that govern “power” has had a tremendous effect on how COVID has spread or diminished. Some political moves were helpful, some counterproductive.

That being said, where we are now in relation to politics and COVID is strictly fodder for campaigns across the board.

If anyone thinks come Nov 5th, COVID will be talked about as much as it is on Sept 17th, they are living in a bubble full of false altruism.

That goes for both parties IMO.
 
Fact is there's no evidence that mask help anything. This is why Sweden never recommend them. Because they rely on an evidence based approach. I know it sounds like "common sense", but ultimately it's non sense. People who want to wear them shouldn't feel the need to force others to do so. For the rest of it yeah, the President has to compromise and go within the framework of advice he gets. You have to be clueless to think a President has to have immovable knowledge and will on every, or even most subjects. That's not things work in any group settings, even if you're the supposed leader

Yeah there's evidence masks prevent droplets from traveling. No shit. That's not the same as evidence that people not wearing masks are the ones transmitting the virus substantially more than those that do. Maybe such evidence exists, but that's what they should be hyping instead of whether the President wore a mask on a given day. What silliness. I tend to believe there's no such evidence because Tegnell says so, and I haven't seen anything presented to the contrary.
It's funny when the cdc says masks may be our best weapon. That only tells me they have no weapons.

Btw, I historically despise Republicans and been sympathetic to the Dems. But since I find Dems behavior so outrageously off the rails over the last few years, I'm finding some down to earth logic behind a lot of conservative positions. (I still can't stand a lot of their shtick, especially the demeaning of other countries and the propensity to call anything they don't like Socialism) :whaley:

But yeah, people do change their views over time.
 
The question of "do masks help?" has been asked many times. The answer I liked best came from one of the top doctors on the virus, She said masks are just 1 part of the plan. Physical distancing, masks and frequent hand washing is what is recommended. All 3 together will help reduce transmission of the virus. Masks alone will be less effective.

Common sense says that wearing a mask would assist in preventing the spread of the virus by helping contain droplets emitted from a possible carrier while breathing out. Every little bit helps. I wear a mask when I go out because I want to be part of the solution and not the problem.

Also, regular Joes seem to have an opinion on how to deal with the situation and some think they are authorities on the subject. I'm going to listen to the doctors/scientists opinions and consider them first.

The whole "making us wear a mask is against our rights" is nonsense. The government can order people to evacuate when a hurricane is approaching - this is for peoples own good and has ZERO to do with taking away their freedoms/rights. I don't get why its so hard for some to understand. Watching US network news produces a whole lotta facepalms when I see retarded Americans saying dumb shit during an interview.

And yeah, the dude's quote is that masks might give people a false sense of security and make them more reckless. He's worried about the mental effects of masks, not arguing they don't physically work to slow the spread.

Not that it matters. Everywhere I go I see people with their masks around their chins or their noses sticking out anyway. Between antimaskers and people who dont give a shit we'll just keep blasting droplets on each other forever it seems.

I'm primarily referring the quote about there being almost no actual evidence. He doesn't discount that it's possible there can be some benefit.
That's not enough to force people to muzzle themselves.
Yeah I know, it's no big deal to most. A lot of things are no big until you realize you're living in a totalitarian society. And the symbolism is particularly powerful from my perspective.
I know it's never a big deal when it causes problem for someone else
 
And like I said before the vague notion of economy is not the issue. It's the prevention of people living their lives in a normal, human way, free to make decisions. And of course the ability for people to make a living the way they can is part of it.
Disappointing to see what supposed to be freedom respecting people, turn out to be nothing more than buttwipes of authority.

Someone who is a fan of dictator of Belarus should not talk of being anti-totalitarian. You are such a hypocrite.

This mask thing hardly affects me. I barely use it (average 30 minutes of usage a week) but it's not about me or you. Think of grocery worker, bank teller, bus driver, airport worker etc. If more people wear a mask properly, maybe some of them will be safer. Even with limited efficacy of masks, maybe a lot more will have some peace of mind.
