a whole series of things... it was sparked by a raise in bus fares, construction rackets with world cup funds, missing money from other departments for the event, exposed crooked politicians, extra judicial killings by cops (#1 in the world), an entire community displaced for the construction of a museum (10000 people affected to create a fukking sports museum next to a stadium), food price manipulations, tons of shit, fifa and government got a big surprised by it all, i love it, they thought the masses were going to be content with soccer, these were very spontaneous next year they are going to be huge
