I didn't do anything to it and suddenly it just changes. WTF?

Suddenly out of the blue, when I go to play a movie, it is defaulting to something called QuickTime Movie Player. Up until yesterday, It would default to Windows Media Player.

I wouldn't even care all that much - except this new thing doesn't actually play movies. It just gives me a blank gray screen that sits there.

I go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and I can't find it there.

I had the exact same thing happen with my picture viewer. Suddenly I started defaulting to a QuickTime Picture viewer - which didn't show fucking pictures! I did manage to delete that. I don't know how; I couldn't find it in Add/Remove programs either. But I figured something out and was able to switch to a picture viewer that shows pictures.

Anyway, any suggestions about this movie viewer?

Yap. Save that shit locally first.

There's also a way to change the program/file associations for WMP but it varies from one version of Windows to the next. I can only give you directions for Windows 7.

I saved it and tried playing it in Windows Media Player but it wouldn't play. But then it played in VLC media player.

:dunno:
Thats because you were instructed to install and use VLC media player the last time you posted a similar problem here.

Plommer remembers because he is the one that recommended this fix.

I don't remember that. I remember you instructed me to install something called GOMplayer - which I did. That is on a different computer which used to be my main computer but has since been replaced by this one.

I haven't had this computer for long and whatever is on it must have come with it.

But I don't know what is happening with this QuickTime stuff. It's like it is coming with my sister's emails and taking over the system.

This is important information and likely the source of the problem.

Except there was no problem. Everything was sailing along fine until my sister sent me a photo which I guess was using Quicktime Picture viewer. Suddenly every pic I wanted to open was defaulting to that - which was just a blank gray screen. No picture.

Then the same thing seemed to be happening with Quicktime movie player after she sent me a little movie of the nephew.

I still haven't uninstalled that but I guess I at least have a work-around.
